Spiritual State of the Meeting – 2009

One Friend, thankful for our small but loving and caring fellowship, is reminded of the words of Jesus according to Matthew: “Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.” (Mt:18-20). Indeed, we are thankful for the Spirit’s presence among us, and so we are sustained and strengthened to carry on. This year again we sadly sent two of our Friends off to Canada in April and welcomed them back in October. Their presence tends to enliven our sharing and deepen our worship. “For the Beauty of the Earth.” “A Song of Peace,” “God of the Earth, the Sky , the Sun,” and “Blest is the Tie that Binds” are ongoing central themes, hymns we sing often at the close of worship (from the old FGC 1955 hymnbook, which we continue to use.)

Spiritual State of the Meeting – 2008

For most of 2008 there were only two Friends attending meetings. Then towards the end of the year our two Friends sojourning in Canada returned for the winter. Their presence enlivened both our worship and our discussions. Messages during worship increased in frequency. The bonds of friendship felt strong, made stronger no doubt by one Friend’s having helped another through a difficult personal time. Meetings for worship ended with a period of singing of hymns and songs which often built on the messages shared during worship.

Spiritual State of the Meeting – 2007

Quaker Lake Friends Meeting remains a very small meeting. In fact, by the end of 2007 we had only two regular attenders. We did have a number of visitors during the year, but for reasons we could not ascertain, none decided to continue attending for the long term. It was certainly not for lack of attention.

Two of our members have been sojourning in Canada near family for almost three years. We would certainly like to see them return for at least part of the year, but they are perhpas more needed where they are. In short, we are keeping the meeting alive, but just barely. We appreciate anyone who may be moved to hold us in the Light.
